I think one of the hardest things for most parents is deciding what to wear for the photo shoot. I hear it all the time, "mom made us model 6 different outfits to help her decide", "it took mom 2 weeks to make a decision on what we should wear", "I had to buy my husband something new", or even "the clothes cost more than the photoshoot!" In my personal opinion, I would never spend more on the clothes than the photoshoot. The clothes will get worn out and discarded, the photos should and will last forever.
So, when it comes to deciding what to wear, mom, pick what you feel good in. Choose what makes you feel beautiful. Let's be honest, your kids are adorable no matter what and they don't care, unless it is itchy or too small, don't do that! And dad, well, he likely looks great in his everyday wear. once you have figured out what YOU want to wear, build on that. Here are some ideas:
- Choose a color palette and choose coordinating outfits, it doesn't have to be matchy-matchy. For example: jewel tones or pastels.
- Colors that contrast too much are not ideal, like black and white.
- Stylistically, be similar. One person in jeans and a t-shirt and everyone else in formal attire, is not ideal.
- Keep patterns to a minimum. Try one person with a pattern and everyone else coordinate.
- Reds are hard to match.
- If you like black and white photos, solids read better, and yellow isn't fantastic in black and white.
These are a few pointers to help you get started, not set in stone. Remember, be who you are, let your children be who they are, and you will have a beautiful photoshoot.
XOXO,
Amy
