Olivia | Owyhee High School Class of 2027
Some senior sessions are about one look. Olivia's session was about two very different sides of one person, and I loved every minute of it. She started the day of her senior portrait session by visiting Jacey with The Vanity Beauty for a little pampering to get her makeup done.
Olivia is a senior at Owyhee High School, graduating in 2027. Ask her best friends to describe her in three words and they would say creative, kind, and funny. I got to spend an hour with her at Kathryn Albertson Park, and I know exactly what they mean.
Meet Olivia
Music is a huge part of Olivia's life. She plays violin and electric bass for her school orchestra and piano outside of class. When she is not practicing, she is reading, writing, and drawing her own original work. She is also part of her school's book club. Here is my favorite fact about her: she told me she has twenty stories going on in her head at once. I would read every single one.
Her favorite high school memory is the orchestra trip to San Francisco during her sophomore year. It was the first time she traveled without her parents, and she came home closer to her orchestra family with plenty of fun stories to tell.
Two Outfits, Two Personalities
Olivia came with a clear vision, and it made my job easy. She wanted her photos to show that she has two very different personalities when it comes to her instruments.
For the first look, she wore her Beatles shirt and jeans and brought her electric bass. This was her rocker side, and we chased an album cover vibe. Bass in hand, she gave us attitude and cool confidence. She also wore her Paul McCartney concert tee she got in Las Vegas.
For the second look, she changed into a black dress and picked up her violin. Everything softened. The mood turned elegant and refined, with a graceful feel that matched the music she plays. Books also made an appearance, which felt perfect for a girl who loves to read and write.
It is rare to see one person shift so completely between two moods, and Olivia did it beautifully. Her props were not just accessories. They told her story.
Getting Comfortable
Olivia admitted she was nervous heading into the session, and that is completely normal. Most people are. But she settled in quickly. By the end she had figured out what I was looking for and was taking direction like a pro. She said it just takes a little getting used to, and she is right. Watching her relax and let her personality shine through was the best part of the day.
She did not come with a long list of must have shots. She just wanted her instruments to be highlighted, and she loved every photo we made together.
What Comes Next
Olivia plans to attend the University of Utah and study Biology, with a goal of earning a Master's in Genetic Counseling. She is excited to branch out, forge her own path, and keep growing in both her studies and her music.
Her advice for incoming freshmen is simple: study hard and you will reap the reward later. Coming from someone with her dedication, I believe it.
She also shared a favorite lyric from The Beatles about the love you take being equal to the love you make. It suits her well, because she puts so much heart into everything she creates.
