Senior Pictures on the Boise Greenbelt
Some senior sessions feel like meeting someone new. Others feel like catching up with family. Micah’s was the second kind, because I’ve known his mom through the marching arts for years. We taught camps together, and if you’ve spent time in that world, you know it’s a small, tight-knit community. When Micah told me, “My mom knows so many people, and of course it’s through music,” I laughed, because it’s completely true.
So when it was time for his senior portraits, I was honored to be the one behind the camera. Here’s how his Idaho senior session at Reid Merrill Park came together.
Meet Micah: Mountain View High School, Class of 2027
Micah is a senior at in Meridian, Idaho. Ask his closest friends to describe him and you’ll hear three words: caring, funny, and hardworking. That showed up in the first ten minutes of our session. He was quick to laugh, easy to talk to, and clearly the kind of person who makes others feel comfortable.
Outside of school, Micah’s life is full of music and adventure. He plays euphonium in the band, and he loves rock climbing and snowboarding. It’s a great mix: precision and practice on one side, fearless, outdoorsy energy on the other.
And here’s a fun fact most people don’t know about him: Micah has heterochromia, meaning his eyes are two different colors. Portrait photographers love natural light, and it’s the best way to show off a detail like that.
Why We Chose Reid Merrill Park and the Boise River Greenbelt
Micah has grown up in Idaho, and when I asked whether his session location was meaningful, he didn’t hesitate. A lot of his photos were taken along the Greenbelt, a place that holds years of memories for him.
That’s what I love about choosing a senior portrait location. The best backdrop isn’t always the flashiest one. It’s the place that already means something to you.
Reid Merrill Park in Eagle is a great spot for senior portraits in the Treasure Valley. It has open grass, mature trees, soft pathways, and plenty of variety within a short walk. Paired with the nearby stretch of the Boise River Greenbelt, we had natural textures, leading lines, and gentle light without traveling across town. If you’re searching for senior photo locations near Meridian, Idaho, this one is worth adding to your list.
A Relaxed Session
Micah admitted he was a little nervous at the start. Almost every senior is, and that’s completely normal. But once we started walking the path, chatting, and moving from spot to spot, the nerves faded. He said the lack of a super serious atmosphere made it a very enjoyable experience, which is exactly what I aim for.
I’m a big believer that the best senior photos happen between the “poses.” We walked, we talked, and we let moments happen. Micah didn’t come in with a specific mood or a must-have shot list, and that gave us freedom to follow the light and the location. The result is a gallery that feels honest and natural, just like him.
One Outfit, Semi-Casual, All Him
Micah brought one outfit, a semi-casual look that suited the park perfectly. It’s proof that you don’t need a suitcase of wardrobe changes for a great session. One comfortable, well-fitting outfit that feels like you will always beat five outfits that don’t.
If you’re planning your own senior session, my tip is to choose clothes you’d actually wear on a good day, with colors that complement the location. Greens and earthy tones photograph beautifully along the Greenbelt.
Bringing the Euphonium
The one prop Micah brought was his instrument, and it was the right choice. A euphonium isn’t a small prop, but it tells his story better than any trendy accessory could.
Music has shaped his high school years. His favorite memory is preparing for and performing with the All-State Honor Band, the kind of experience that takes months of work and ends in a few unforgettable moments on stage. Including his euphonium in his senior portraits gives him a way to remember that chapter long after graduation.
If you’re a musician, athlete, or artist, I always encourage you to bring the thing you love. Senior portraits are meant to capture who you are right now, and for Micah, that includes the music.
What’s Next: Boise State and a Big Future
After graduation, Micah is headed to Boise State University, where he plans to major in psychology and minor in music. It’s a fitting combination for someone who is caring, curious about people, and deeply tied to music.
He told me what he’s most excited about is meeting new people and getting into a more specific field of study. With his warmth and work ethic, I have no doubt he’ll do well in whatever he chooses.
Advice for Incoming Freshmen
When I asked what advice he’d give an incoming freshman, Micah said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” It’s wise at any age, and especially in high school, where it’s easy to measure yourself against everyone around you.
His favorite scripture, James 1:19-20, points in a similar direction. It’s a reminder to listen first, slow down, and respond with patience. It’s a quiet strength, and it’s a good fit for the person I met at the park.
Congratulations, Micah, and thank you for such a fun session.
XOXO,
Amy
Are You Planning Your Own Boise Area Senior Portrait Session?
If Micah’s session has you thinking about your own, here’s what I’d suggest:
Choose a place that matters to you. A favorite park, trail, or neighborhood makes the photos feel personal.
Bring something that tells your story. An instrument, a team jersey, climbing gear, or a favorite book can add meaning.
Don’t stress about the mood. You don’t need a concept. Show up, relax, and let the session unfold.
Book early. Class of 2027 sessions fill up quickly, especially in the autumn and spring.
I’m a senior portrait photographer serving Meridian, Boise, Eagle, Nampa, and the greater Treasure Valley. If you’re ready to plan a relaxed, authentic session, I’d love to hear from you.
