Reegan | Class of 2027 | Elko High School Senior Session
Full disclosure: this one's personal. Reegan is my niece. I cannot believe we are here already. Time sure does fly!
Meet Reegan
Reegan is a member of Elko High School's Class of 2027. Her best friends describe her as elegant, intelligent, and kind, and I'm here to confirm they absolutely nailed it. From the moment she stepped in front of the camera, she carried herself with a quiet confidence and grace that made every image feel effortless.
When she's not busy with school, you'll most likely find her spending time outdoors camping with family, settling in for a movie night, reading a good book, or simply enjoying time with the people she loves most. She has a calm, genuine spirit that makes her easy to be around, and that authenticity shines through in every photograph. Reegan is no stranger to hard work and dedication, either. She spent two years running sprints in track and field and even advanced all the way to the State Championship in Cross Country. So yes, she's fast, and I definitely was tired after our time together. Her athletic background has taught her perseverance, discipline, and determination, qualities that will undoubtedly serve her well wherever life takes her.
One of my favorite things about senior sessions is discovering the little details that make each person unique, and Reegan brought a beautiful personal touch to hers. Her best-kept secret? She collects and presses flowers. For this session, she carefully gathered blooms from her nana's yard, which made the experience feel even more meaningful. Incorporating something so special and personal added a layer of storytelling to her portraits and gave us a way to celebrate memories, family connections, and the things she loves most.
Between the soft flowers, the natural beauty of the location, and Reegan's elegant presence, this session came together in the most beautiful way. It was such a joy getting to know her and capture this exciting season of life.
The Session
We photographed Reegan in two places that feel like home: her grandparents' dreamy backyard and downtown Caldwell at Indian Creek Plaza. These weren't just beautiful locations, they were places filled with years of memories, family gatherings, and moments that helped shape who she is. Choosing locations that already held meaning made the entire session feel comfortable, authentic, and full of heart.
Her grandparents' yard was the perfect setting for some of the softer, more personal portraits. Surrounded by flowers, greenery, and familiar spaces, Reegan seemed completely at ease. It was especially fitting considering her love of collecting and pressing flowers. Every corner felt like it belonged in her story.
Downtown Caldwell brought a different energy to the session. The mix of textures, architecture, and open spaces gave us plenty of variety while still allowing Reegan's personality to take center stage. We laughed our way through outfit changes, explored little pockets of light, and captured a collection of images that felt both timeless and uniquely her.
Reegan came prepared with five outfits that perfectly balanced casual and dressy styles. Each look highlighted a different side of her personality, from laid-back and comfortable to polished and elegant. One of my favorite parts of any senior session is watching a senior's confidence grow as the session unfolds, and each outfit brought out something new.
She also brought a collection of meaningful props that told her story from beginning to end. Her cap and gown celebrated how far she's come academically, while her letterman's jacket represented her years of dedication as an athlete. A beautiful bouquet of flowers added a personal touch that reflected one of her favorite hobbies and created some truly stunning photographs.
And then there was the childhood teddy bear.
Yes, the bear got to be a part of the photo shoot.
Yes, it was absolutely adorable.
In all seriousness, I love when seniors include meaningful items that have been part of their lives for years. The bear may seem simple, but it represents memories, comfort, and the journey from childhood to adulthood. Senior year is all about celebrating where you've been while looking ahead to where you're going, and that little bear ended up being one of the sweetest symbols of that transition.
Between the meaningful locations, the personal props, and Reegan's effortless elegance, this session felt like a beautiful reflection of who she is right now. It was relaxed, genuine, and filled with moments that I know she'll treasure for years to come.
The Nerves
Reegan will be the first to tell you that she was a little nervous at the beginning of her session. Her biggest concern? Not knowing how to pose.
Honestly, that's one of the most common things I hear from seniors, and it's exactly why you don't need to know how to pose before showing up. That's my job.
Like so many seniors, Reegan started the session wondering what to do with her hands, where to look, and whether she'd feel awkward in front of the camera. The good news is that those feelings usually last only a few minutes.
Once we got moving, everything changed. Instead of focusing on posing, she focused on having fun. We walked through her favorite spots, chatted about school and life, laughed at my terrible jokes, and let the session unfold naturally. A few twirls, a lot of movement, and plenty of genuine smiles later, the nerves started to disappear.
That's when the real Reegan showed up. The confident athlete. The thoughtful flower collector. The girl who lights up when she talks about the people and things she loves. The version of herself her family and friends see every day.
By the end of the session, she wasn't worrying about posing at all. She was relaxed, confident, and completely in her element. In fact, I went from gently guiding her through every pose to trying to keep up with all her energy and ideas.
And honestly? That's my favorite part of every senior session. Watching someone arrive feeling nervous and leave realizing they were photogenic all along.
By the end, I was the one struggling to keep up. Thankfully, all those years of track and cross country training prepared Reegan for that moment far better than they prepared me.
What She Wanted These Photos to Say
I asked what she wants people to feel when they see her photos. Her answer: joy and excitement in her eyes and smile. Mission accomplished, kid. That smile did most of the work. As photographers, we can guide poses, find the best light, and create beautiful settings. But there are some things that can't be manufactured. Genuine excitement is one of them.
The moment she stepped in front of the camera, it was there.
The smile. The sparkle in her eyes. The anticipation of everything that's ahead. The confidence that comes from standing on the edge of a new chapter.
Those are the things that made these photos shine.
Sure, I clicked the shutter. I found the angles and the light. I helped with the details. But honestly? Her smile did most of the work.
The best photos don't just show what someone looks like. They capture how they feel. When she said she wanted her photos to reflect joy and excitement, her smile took care of the rest.
The Good Stuff
One of Reegan's favorite high school memories wasn't a game, a dance, or a big event. It was something much more meaningful: building a connection with her best friend, who also happens to be her boyfriend. There's something special about finding someone who can make you laugh, support your goals, and walk through life's biggest moments by your side. The way she talks about their friendship makes it clear that the relationship is built on a strong foundation, and it's been a memorable part of her high school years.
When it comes to what's next, Reegan has a vision for her future and isn't afraid to chase it. She's excited about marriage, creating a home, and building a life filled with the people and things she loves most. In a world that constantly tells young people they need to have everything figured out, there's something refreshing about someone who knows what matters to them and confidently moves in that direction. I absolutely love that for her.
The thing she's most looking forward to right now is graduation and the fresh start that comes with it. Senior year is full of big emotions, excitement for what's ahead, gratitude for the memories that got you here, and anticipation for the next chapter. For Reegan, graduation isn't just the end of high school. It's the beginning of a brand-new adventure, and she's ready for it.
Her advice for incoming freshmen is simple but incredibly wise:
"Make the best memories you can, but remember there is life to live outside of the school too!"
Honestly, that might be some of the best advice out there. High school is an important season, but it isn't the whole story. Reegan has done a wonderful job of embracing both, making memories with friends, participating in activities she loves, spending time with family, and creating a life that's full both inside and outside the classroom. That's a balance many people spend years trying to find, and she's already figured out how valuable it can be.
A Verse That Feels Like Her
When I asked Reegan if there was a verse that reflected her heart and her outlook on life, she chose John 14:1:
"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me."
This choice makes sense. She has a quiet confidence about her, not the kind that seeks attention, but the kind that comes from knowing who she is and what matters most to her. Whether she's talking about her plans for the future, her family, or the memories she's made along the way, there's a sense of peace and certainty that follows her.
This verse speaks about trusting even when the future is unknown, and that's exactly the season Reegan is stepping into. Graduation is approaching, exciting changes are on the horizon, and life is opening the door to a brand-new chapter. While many people face those transitions with uncertainty, Reegan approaches them with faith, purpose, and a steady heart.
It's a fitting reminder that no matter how much life changes, there is comfort in trusting the path ahead. And if there's one thing I learned during our time together, it's that Reegan is ready for whatever comes next. Her future is bright, and she carries the kind of grace, kindness, and faith that will guide her wherever that journey leads.
We wrapped up the session with one of my favorite parts of the day: splashing around in the water fountains at Indian Creek Plaza in downtown Caldwell. By that point, all the nerves were long gone, and Reegan was completely relaxed and having fun. She kicked off her shoes, wandered through the water, and captured some of the most carefree moments of the entire session. There was plenty of laughter, a few strategically avoided splashes, and lots of genuine smiles. As the evening light reflected off the water, it felt like the perfect way to end a session that was so uniquely her. Fun, adventurous, a little bit playful, and completely authentic. Some of my favorite images came from those final moments in the water, when she wasn't thinking about posing at all and was simply enjoying the experience. Those are often the photos that tell the story best.
What I love most about senior portraits is that they're more than a milestone. They're a snapshot of who someone is in this exact moment, before life carries them into whatever comes next. Years from now, I hope she looks back at these images and remembers not just what she looked like, but how she felt: proud, excited, hopeful, and completely herself.
Reegan, I'm so proud of you. Thank you for letting me be part of this chapter. Congratulations, and I can't wait to see what you do next!
XOXO,
Aunt Amy
