Maternity Monday-Tip of the Day

When I am consulting with a maternity client, I ask them to bring props. So many times, they don't have any idea what I am talking about and also wonder why. So, let me answer the question in advance of your session. I believe bringing props to your session makes it even more personal to you. Sure, you will be beautiful in your portraits, but bringing something that belongs to your new baby helps to tell your story.

There are some ideas to help you decide what to bring:

  1. an ultrasound picture-if it a profile photo, it will be fun to compare with your newborn session
  2. are you announcing you are pregnant?
  3. bring an ultrasound photo
  4. bring shoes and we will photograph mom, dad, and baby shoes
  5. a sign "1 + 1 = 3"
  6. if there is an older sibling, they can wear a shirt announcing a promotion to older sibling
  7. are you announcing the gender of the baby in the photos?
  8. bring shoes-girls or boys
  9. bring a balloon in pink or blue
  10. a chalkboard sign revealing the gender
  11. are you announcing baby's name in the photos?
  12. bring blocks to spell out name- these can be placed in your hands or across your belly.
  13. a chalkboard sign with baby's name
  14. something hand made with baby's name
  15. If there is something fun you and your partner like to do, incorporating it into your session makes it uniquely you!
  16. a stuffed animal that is special, it can be photographed with the ultrasound photo, then with your child at every session, at least during the first year.
  17. flowers, regardless of gender, are beautiful

These are a few ideas to help you decide how to make your photo session personal. Always discuss with your photographer, what your ideas are!
